Mumbai, Maharashtra: Comedian Kunal Kamra has once again found himself at the center of controversy. A photo of him wearing a T-shirt is going viral on social media.
The T-shirt features a picture of a dog along with what appears to be the letters “RSS.”
While the letter “R” is not fully visible, some have misread it as “PSS.” Kamra shared the photo on Monday, November 24, on the social media platform X, captioning it, “This photo is not from a comedy club.”

This post comes months after Kamra courted controversy in March for a parody song he performed at a comedy club in Mumbai, where he took a dig at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Following the show, supporters of the Shiv Sena Shinde faction vandalized the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, and multiple FIRs were registered against him.
Kamra had parodied the popular Bollywood song “Bholi Si Surat” from the film Dil To Pagal Hai, referring humorously to Shinde and the political split between the Shiv Sena and the NCP.
Political Reactions from BJP and Shiv Sena Leaders
The latest social media post has drawn sharp criticism from BJP and Shiv Sena leaders, who allege that Kamra attempted to mock the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, widely regarded as the ideological mentor of the BJP.
Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule warned that police action could be taken against anyone posting “objectionable” content online.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat urged the BJP to respond strongly and highlighted Kamra’s history of critical remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Shirsat remarked that Kamra had “mustered the courage” to make an objectionable post against the RSS, reiterating the party’s stance that action should be taken. Authorities have stated that the investigation into the matter is ongoing, and any necessary action will be taken in due course.
Kamra, who is 36 years old, has previously been involved in multiple controversies for his satirical comments targeting political figures, and his latest post has once again ignited a debate over freedom of expression and political satire in India.
Debate on Satire, Free Speech and Sensitivities
The photo, which Kamra shared on Instagram, shows him wearing a T-shirt with a dog image alongside the letters referencing RSS. While some have misread the text, the post has sparked outrage among BJP and Shiv Sena leaders, with calls for strict action against the comedian.
Kamra’s supporters argue that his post was meant as satire, not a provocation, but the political backlash has been immediate and vociferous, reflecting the heightened sensitivity around criticism of political parties and their affiliates.
This is not the first time Kamra has faced repercussions for his comedy. Earlier this year, his parody of Shinde led to vandalism at the comedy venue and legal complaints filed across Mumbai.
In a veiled reference to those incidents, Kamra clarified that the recent photo was not taken at a comedy club, signaling that his intent was unrelated to any live performance.
Despite the controversy, the image continues to circulate widely on social media, fueling discussions about satire, political sensitivity, and the boundaries of free speech in India.
