‘Lagaam Lagaiye’: Army Chief Tells Pakistan to Curb Drone Intrusions

New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday issued a strong message to Pakistan, saying that drone incursions into India must be “controlled.” Calling them unacceptable, he said the issue had been raised in the DGMO (Director General Military Operations)-level talks. General Dwivedi said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is sensitive, but completely under control.

Drones probing security loopholes: Army Chief

At the annual press conference, the Army Chief stated that the drones spotted were small, flying at low altitudes, and often had their lights on. He said that about six drones were spotted on January 10, while two to three drones were seen on January 11 and 12.
According to General Dwivedi, “These drones were trying to see if there was any action on our part and if there were any loopholes or routes through which terrorists could be sent.” He said that due to the strict surveillance by the Indian Army, they received a clear message that “there are no such places or loopholes as of today.”

The Army Chief confirmed that this issue was clearly raised in the DGMO-level talks. He said, “This is not acceptable to us, please control it… This has been clearly conveyed to them.” In this context, he said, “Rein in.”

Suspicious drones originating from Pakistan were spotted near the Line of Control in the Nowshera-Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir and in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. A drone was found hovering over a gas-based thermal power plant in Jaisalmer, prompting police to launch an investigation. Officials said that flying drones without permission is strictly prohibited in the district.

Meanwhile, security was tightened in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after drones were spotted, and the army forced them back using counter-drone systems.
