Lahore HC to Hear Sarabjit Kaur’s first husband’s Petition Challenging Her Second Marriage

The Lahore High Court has scheduled the hearing of a petition filed by Karnail Singh, the Indian husband of Sarabjit Kaur, for March 2, 2026.

The case will be heard as an objection petition in the court of Judge Farooq Haider. The upcoming hearing is considered crucial, as the court will decide whether the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office should be dismissed or whether the matter should proceed to a regular hearing.

Petition Filed Through Legal Representatives

Karnail Singh recently approached the court through his lawyer, Ali Changezi Sandhu. Advocates Ali Changezi Sandhu and Mohammad Nawaz Sheikh are set to present arguments against the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office.

During the previous hearing, the court directed a detailed debate on the validity of the special power of attorney under domestic and international law.

Claim: First Marriage Still Legally Valid

The main argument in the petition is that the marriage between Karnail Singh and Sarabjit Kaur is still legally subsisting.

The petitioner claims that Sarabjit Kaur did not obtain a formal divorce before allegedly marrying Nasir Hussain in Pakistan. Therefore, according to the plea, the second marriage is legally invalid.

Questions Raised Over Islamic Law and Legal Validity

The petition further argues that the marriage is contrary to Islamic principles and established Sharia law.

The court will now determine the legal status of the special power of attorney and whether the petition challenging the validity of the marriage is admissible.

The March 2 hearing is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the future course of this cross-border marital dispute.
