Landslide Hits Narsoo Market on Jammu-Srinagar Highway, Several Buildings Collapsed

Udhampur, J&K: A massive landslide struck the Narsoo market area in the Somroli region along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday around 11:30 am, causing extensive damage to commercial structures.

Officials reported that the landslide completely destroyed a recently opened hotel and at least three shops, burying them under a large volume of mud and rocks. The affected zone, known as Narsoo Nullah, is prone to frequent landslides, especially during the monsoon season, highlighting the region’s fragile geological condition.

No Casualties Thanks to Early Evacuation

Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as residents and workers had been evacuated following early signs of slope movement and visible cracks in nearby structures. Local authorities praised the quick action that ensured the safety of people in the area.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with massive mud and rock slides engulfing structures within seconds, prompting panic among residents and workers. Many fled to safer locations fearing further collapses.
