Landslide in Ramban closes Jammu-Srinagar Highway, restoration work underway

Ramban( J&K): A huge landslide completely blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in Ramban district late Sunday night. The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. near Karol Bridge, where a big amount of stones and debris fell on the road, disrupting traffic on both sides. Frequent stone falls were also reported between Karol Bridge and Chanderkot.

Deputy Traffic Inspector (DTI) Vinay Gupta stated that heavy machinery has been deployed to reopen the road as soon as possible, and restoration work is progressing rapidly. However, due to the extent of the landslide, it may take some time for traffic to be restored. Traffic has been temporarily suspended in the affected area for safety reasons.

Precautions were also issued for travellers
The administration has appealed to travellers to check road conditions on social media and official sources before travelling. Travellers have also been advised to avoid travelling at night, as the area is prone to landslides and falling stones.

Earlier, on March 31st, heavy rains caused a landslide in the Mehar area of ​​Ramban, closing the Jammu-Srinagar Highway. The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police advised people not to travel on NH-44 until the weather improves and the road is cleared. The administration is monitoring the situation and is awaiting further information regarding the highway’s reopening.
