Three Women Among 9 Arrested in Bengal’s Lataguri for Alleged Sex Racket at Resort

Kolkata: At least nine people, including three women, were arrested during a police raid at a resort in Lataguri in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district for allegedly running a sex racket, police said on Monday.

Those arrested included five youths, three women and a resort employee. The three women are reportedly from Siliguri in north Bengal, while the five youths are residents of Assam. The arrested persons are expected to be produced before a Jalpaiguri court later on Monday, an officer from Malbazar police station said.

Police Raid Resort in Lataguri

Malbazar police station Inspector-in-Charge Paljar Bhutia said illegal activities would not be tolerated at resorts in Lataguri.

“We have arrested several people. We are investigating which other resorts are hosting such illegal activities,” the officer said.

The operation was led by Malbazar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sudipta Sarkar, Inspector-in-Charge Paljar Bhutia and Kranti outpost Officer-in-Charge Tenzing Bhutia.

During a raid at a resort near Saraswati Banbasti in Lataguri late on Sunday night, police found three women and five youths in what officials described as an objectionable condition. A resort employee was also arrested.

Police Search for Suspected Racket Operator

During the preliminary investigation, police found that the three women lived in Siliguri. One of them is reportedly from Haryana, while another is from Uttar Dinajpur district. They had allegedly been living in Siliguri for the past few years.

Police suspect that the alleged racket was being operated with the help of a youth from Lataguri. He reportedly fled after learning about the raid, and police have launched a search to trace him.

The raid was conducted after police received information about alleged illegal activities at the resort.

Police Probe Other Resorts

This is not the first time an alleged sex racket has been busted in Lataguri, a popular tourist destination.

According to police sources, complaints have been received for some time about alleged racketeering activities at several resorts in the area. Acting on such information, police conducted the latest operation.

Further investigation is underway to establish the full network and determine whether other resorts or individuals were involved.
