Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested 10 notorious drug peddlers in Srinagar on Sunday under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act. The arrested individuals were involved in the illegal drug trade, and their capture is part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.
The arrested peddlers have been identified as Rizwan Bashir Dhobi, Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, Owais Hussain Mir, Nadeem Hussain Bhat, Sheikh Jibran Nisar, Raqib Lateef Bhat alias Amir, Abdul Ahad Bhat, and Moin Khan, all residents of various areas in Srinagar.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking, which is seen as a significant threat to the youth and a potential source of funding for terrorism. Authorities believe that drugs are mainly smuggled from across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), with the proceeds supporting terrorist activities. The police have also started seizing properties linked to drug peddlers, as these assets are suspected to be obtained from the profits of illicit drug trade.
In a separate operation last month, the police uncovered a drug peddling ring using drones to monitor the movements of consumers and law enforcement, marking the first time drones were found in the possession of drug traffickers in Kashmir.
