1984 anti-Sikh riot victims in Delhi hail Modi govt on receiving job letter from L-G Saxena

New Delhi: Victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi expressed their gratitude to the Modi government after receiving job appointment letters from Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena. On Thursday, Saxena visited Tilak Vihar, a colony for these victims, and distributed letters to around 50 individuals.

Deepak Sethi, a recipient, remarked that the job letter has brought immense relief and has secured a better future for his children, noting that they had been advocating for jobs since 2006. Another local resident, Harvinder Singh, also highlighted the long wait for these appointments, stating that the process had been stalled for years but is finally moving forward.

Atma Singh Lubana, Vice-President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and a key advocate for job opportunities for riot victims, announced that approximately 500-600 more individuals are expected to receive jobs as their applications are still pending. The L-G has mandated the Divisional Commissioner and Chief Secretary to organize a camp next week to review all pending job files for the victims.

Lubana criticized the previous Congress government for previously shortlisting 72 candidates in 2006 without any follow-through, citing issues like illiteracy and age as reasons for disqualification. He praised the current government for removing these barriers and noted significant steps taken recently, including the imprisonment of Sajjan Kumar for his involvement in the riots, as well as legal action against another key figure, Jagdish Tytler.

He expressed gratitude to the Central government, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and state party president Virendra Sachdeva for facilitating job opportunities for the victims.
