New Delhi: After the victory in the assembly elections, the BJP can now form a government in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) as well. 3 councillors of the Aam Aadmi Party joined the BJP on Saturday.
Those who joined the BJP include councillor Anita Basoya from Andrews Ganj, councillor Dharamveer from RK Puram and councillor Nikhil from Chaprana. BJP president Virendra Sachdeva got them inducted into the party.
Apart from these, 4 AAP leaders also joined BJP. Sandeep Basoya joined BJP along with his supporters. He has been the district president of New Delhi from AAP.
MCD elections will be held in April
The election of the Mayor of Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) is going to be held in April this year. The last election was held in November 2024. However, the term is only for 5 months.
Who is ahead in the number game in MCD?
There are a total of 250 councillor seats in Delhi Municipal Corporation. Out of these, 11 councillors have become MPs and MLAs. In this way, the number of councillors left is now 239. Out of which 119 are from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party while 113 are from BJP. At the same time, 7 councillors are from Congress. Due to the departure of 3 more councillors, the number of AAP has fallen to 116, that is, their difference with BJP has remained only 3 seats.
With many councillors of Aam Aadmi Party joining BJP, it is certain that BJP will form a triple engine government in Delhi. After the Delhi Assembly elections, it is certain that there will be a change of power in the Delhi Municipal Corporation. It is believed that BJP will become the mayor in the mayoral elections to be held at the end of April.
Before the assembly elections, 6 AAP MLAs had also joined BJP
Before voting, 6 AAP MLAs joined BJP. Before voting on 5 February in Delhi, 6 AAP MLAs rebelled due to not getting tickets. Later all of them joined BJP.
These included Janakpuri MLA Rajesh Rishi, Bhavana Gaur from Palam, BS June from Bijwasan, Pawan Sharma from Adarsh Nagar, Madanlal from Kasturba Nagar, Rohit Mehraulia from Trilokpuri. Apart from these, the names of former MLA Vijendra Garg, Municipal Councilor Ajay Rai and Sunil Chaddha are also included.
