Hyderabad: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale struck parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday morning. The tremors were felt around 7:27 a.m. in cities like Hyderabad and Vijayawada, prompting some residents to flee their homes in panic. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage.
The National Centre for Seismology confirmed that the epicenter was located in Mulugu, Telangana, and the tremors affected an area spanning 225 kilometers from the epicenter. The intensity was particularly strong in districts along the Godavari River in both states.
In Hyderabad, residents in areas such as Cyberabad, Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar, and Abdullapurmet reported feeling the tremors. Videos circulating on social media showed household items shaking, with some residents describing how utensils and other objects fell while ceiling fans swayed. Many initially took time to realize it was an earthquake before rushing outside for safety.
The tremors were also felt in various districts, including Khammam, Rangareddy, Warangal, and Karimnagar. In Warangal, areas like Mulugu, Hanamkonda, and Jayashankar Bhupalpally experienced noticeable shaking. Similarly, residents in Khammam district, including Kothagudem, Manugur, Bhadrachalam, Charla, Chintakani, Nagulavancha, and Yellandu, reported feeling the earthquake.
In Andhra Pradesh, the shaking was felt in places like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Jaggaiahpet, Nandigama, and Eluru. There were also reports of tremors being felt in parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
