Prayagraj: To provide affordable and quality medicines to pilgrims at Mahakumbh 2025, five Jan Aushadhi centres have been established in Mahakumbh Nagar. One of these centres is located in Kalagram and is part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
These centres will operate throughout the Mahakumbh Mela, as confirmed by government officials. Ravi Dadhich, CEO of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), conducted a review of the Jan Aushadhi Stall and other centres in Prayagraj on Saturday. He highlighted that purchasing medicines from these centres can save the public between 50% and 90% on costs.
During his visit, he engaged with visitors and centre operators to discuss the benefits of the PMBJP. Dadhich noted that Uttar Pradesh has 2,633 operational Jan Aushadhi centres, with 62 located in Prayagraj. Nationwide, over 15,000 centres have been established under the Jan Aushadhi Scheme, with a goal of opening 25,000 centres, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
This year, the sales target for these centres is set at Rs 2,000 crore, of which more than Rs 1,500 crore has already been achieved. He explained how devotees can locate the nearest Jan Aushadhi centre using a pin-code based system, enhancing access to affordable medicines.
The PMBI implements this scheme, which aims to provide quality medicines at low prices. In the 2023-24 period, PMBI reported sales of Rs 1,470 crore, resulting in savings of approximately Rs 7,350 crore for citizens. Over the last decade, the initiative has saved around Rs 30,000 crore.
Additionally, the first overseas Jan Aushadhi Kendra was launched in Mauritius.
