The incident occurred as around 4,000 individuals gathered to obtain tokens for prayers at the renowned Tirumala temple, coinciding with the auspicious festival known as “Vaikuntha Ekadashi” on Friday.

The serious injuries led to immediate transportation of victims to a local government hospital for medical care.

“The Tirumala temple is located atop a hill. The stampede happened in Tirupati town below the hill, where the large crowd gathered for token distribution ahead of the special occasion of Vaikuntha Ekadashi,” the local official explained. He also mentioned that those with serious injuries were prioritized for transport to the hospital.
