Chandigarh: Amid the ongoing turmoil within the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Misl Satluj, a socio-political organization representing the Sikh community, has reached out to the Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar for urgent intervention and guidance.
Ajaypal Singh Brar, President of Misl Satluj, expressed concern that the SAD has deviated from its foundational values and the Panthic traditions of selfless service and dedication to Sikh rights. In his letter, he stressed the need for the Akali Dal to reconnect with the core principles of Sikhism that have historically guided its mission to uphold the dignity of the Sikh community.
The Misl Satluj has proposed the expulsion of 11 leaders, including Sukhbir Badal, Prem Singh Chandumajra, and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, citing their political opportunism, personal greed, and failure to embody the true Akali spirit, which has compromised the party’s integrity. The letter notes that these individuals not only neglected their responsibilities during critical events like the 2015 sacrilege but some even supported the perpetrators of the sacrilege.
Brar also called for a return to the original constitution of the Akali Dal, which is based on Sikh values and social justice, ensuring that leadership remains accountable and transparent. He highlighted the importance of reopening membership to Sikhs globally, allowing the Akali Dal to better represent the collective will of the worldwide Sikh community.
Furthermore, he urged a revival of the struggle for the objectives outlined in the 1974 Working Committee at Sri Anandpur Sahib, focusing on principles such as Gurmat, social equality, economic justice, and promoting physical fitness within the Sikh community. The Misl Satluj emphasized that these steps are essential for the Akali Dal to regain its relevance and effectively serve the Sikh Panth.
Additionally, Misl Satluj has submitted a draft document to the Akal Takht for review and finalization to guide the future direction and actions of the Panth.
