New Delhi: As the Budget session commenced on Friday, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav shifted attention to the Kumbh tragedy, calling for justice for the victims. He stated, “While the Budget will be discussed later, today we must focus on peace for those who lost their lives in Kumbh.”

Yadav criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying, “The CM has lost his moral standing; now the question is when he will lose his political position.” His remarks were in response to the state government’s handling of the Kumbh deaths, which have faced scrutiny.

He accused the government of concealing the actual number of fatalities to avoid compensating the families. “The administration is covering up the extent of the tragedy,” Yadav claimed, urging for transparency and the release of a public list of the deceased. “The families of the victims need to be informed promptly, and a complete list must be made public… This is a government failure; they are still hiding information,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Budget Session 2025-26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that this is the first Parliament session since 2014 without any “foreign interference.” The session began with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of both Houses.
