New Delhi: The government has called an all-party meeting for Sunday in preparation for the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju will lead the meeting, which will include floor leaders from both Houses. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will preside over the session.
The meeting is set for 11 a.m. in the Main Committee Room of the Parliament House Annexe. The Winter Session is scheduled to begin on November 25 and is expected to run until December 20, barring any urgent government business. Notably, there will be no sessions of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on November 26 in observance of ‘Constitution Day.’
Reports indicate that the government plans to introduce 15 bills during this session, including an amendment to the Waqf Law and five new proposals. Among the new draft legislations is a bill to establish a cooperative university, the Rashtriya Sahkari Vishwavidyalaya.
Pending bills in the Lok Sabha include the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which will be considered following a report from a joint committee of both Houses, due by the end of the first week of the winter session. Another bill on the agenda is the Punjab Courts (Amendment) Bill, which aims to increase the pecuniary appellate jurisdiction of Delhi district courts from the current Rs 3 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
On Monday, the legislative business list for the Lok Sabha includes Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s proposal to consider and pass a bill further amending the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, along with other banking regulations. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will also propose the consideration and passage of an amendment to the Railway Act, 1989. Additionally, seven ministers are expected to present papers in the Lok Sabha.
