Los Angeles: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s prolonged divorce saga has finally come to a close, with Jolie reportedly securing a substantial settlement of $80 million. The Hollywood power couple’s separation, which spanned an arduous eight years, has been marked by high-profile legal disputes, including an ongoing battle over their co-owned French estate, Château Miraval.

The pair first met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004 and married a decade later, in 2014. While their divorce has now been officially finalised, the legal wrangling over the French vineyard, which they once envisioned as a family legacy, remains unresolved.

According to Daily Mail, a source close to Brad Pitt revealed his relief at the settlement, stating, “He is no longer bound in any way to his marriage with Angelina. She has really put him through the ringer, and he is just glad this portion is done.”

Pitt, now 61, remains one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors, commanding $20 to $30 million per film and boasting an impressive net worth of $400 million. This wealth is attributed to his successful acting career, real estate investments, and various endorsement deals.

Jolie, aged 49, is similarly accomplished. As one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses, she earns between $20 million and $35 million per film. In addition, she has ventured into new creative territories, including her arts and fashion initiative, Atelier Jolie, though its financial success has yet to be disclosed.

The couple’s financial arrangement was governed by a prenuptial agreement signed before their marriage, ensuring each retained assets owned before the wedding while dividing joint wealth equally. However, Jolie appears to have benefitted significantly from the divorce settlement.

In 2018, two years after their separation, Pitt provided Jolie with an $8 million loan to purchase her Los Angeles mansion and paid $1.3 million to cover her and their six children’s expenses. A source has confirmed that Jolie plans to repay the loan by 31 January.

Among Jolie’s notable financial gains was the sale of Winston Churchill’s painting Tower of the Koutoubia Mosque, gifted to her by Pitt, for $11.5 million at a Christie’s auction in 2021. Furthermore, she sold her 50 per cent stake in Château Miraval to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group, for $64 million.

The sale of the estate caused discontent within the Pitt camp. A source commented, “They purchased Miraval with the intent of keeping it 100 per cent in the family. They were going to hand this down for their children so that one day they could run the business and it would provide all of them a lucrative and stable future.”

While the divorce settlement brings an end to a significant chapter in Jolie and Pitt’s lives, the dispute over Château Miraval continues to keep the former couple entangled in legal proceedings.
