Jaipur: Two suspects involved in a recent shooting of a Congress leader and her husband were injured in a police encounter late Sunday night, as reported by police officials on Monday.
Bhilwara Superintendent of Police, Dharmendra Singh Yadav, explained that a group of assailants fired at the couple over a property dispute, prompting the couple to file a complaint. On receiving a tip-off about the suspects’ location near the Manrop Harni Mahadev temple, police approached the area, where the assailants opened fire on them.
Police returned fire, injuring two of the suspects, who were then taken to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for treatment. SP Yadav and other officers visited the hospital following the incident.
The attack on Congress leaders Pushpa Surana and Vidyasagar Surana occurred on the evening of November 6 in Neelkanth Colony, when four assailants entered their home and fired at them, but their shots missed. The suspects had been on the run for 12 days before the police encounter.
One of the primary suspects, Baluram Jat, was known to the family, having previously delivered milk to their home. His motive stemmed from anger over Surana selling land to someone else. An SIT has been formed to locate the remaining gang members, with police currently searching for two more suspects.
