Gaza: According to reports from the Hamas-controlled media office in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes and shelling have killed at least 184 people over the past three days, with 94 airstrikes recorded. The media office described the situation as “dangerous and brutal,” emphasizing that the strikes are targeting unarmed civilians and residential areas, particularly in Gaza City.

Many victims, both deceased and injured, remain trapped under debris due to destroyed infrastructure hindering rescue efforts and access to medical care. Palestinian Civil Defense officials corroborated the reports, noting a significant intensification of Israeli airstrikes in the region.

The statement from Hamas held the Israeli army fully accountable for these “horrific crimes” and criticized the US for its military and political support to Israel. It called on the international community and the UN Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities by sending independent investigations to document these “heinous acts” and ensure accountability.

The escalation began Thursday morning after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned of using “unprecedented force” if Hamas did not release hostages and stop firing rockets at Israel. Negotiations, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the US, have stalled over several issues, chiefly the extension of the ceasefire. While Hamas wants to prolong the truce, Israel insists on its right to resume military action in response to security threats. Another key issue is Hamas’s demand for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, which Israel opposes, citing security needs.

Since hostilities erupted on October 7, 2023, following a Hamas attack that killed over 1,200 Israelis and led to approximately 250 abductions, Israel has conducted a large-scale military campaign in Gaza. Gaza’s health authorities report that over 45,000 Palestinian deaths have occurred amid the ongoing conflict.
