Sydney: Authorities have initiated a significant investigation following the discovery of a body near Sydney Airport on Monday.
The body was found by a passerby in bushes alongside a major road adjacent to the airport in Sydney’s inner-southern suburbs, according to Xinhua news agency.
Reports from News Corp Australia indicate that the body, which has not yet been identified, was wrapped in plastic.
New South Wales (NSW) police confirmed that a crime scene has been established.
“Officers from the South Sydney Police Area Command are receiving assistance from specialist members of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad,” the statement noted.
“A crime scene has been set up, and an investigation into the matter has begun. No further details are available at this time,” it continued.
The location where the body was found is several hundred meters from the airport’s third runway, primarily used for domestic flights.
