Chandigarh: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan recently emphasized that the Bhagavad Gita, a fundamental part of India’s cultural legacy, serves as a scripture for the welfare of humanity. He made this statement at the ninth International Gita Conference held at Kurukshetra University in Haryana, themed “Balanced Nature-Pure Environment Based on Srimad Bhagavad Gita,” during the ongoing International Gita Mahotsav.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya also spoke at the event, underscoring the Gita’s message on environmental preservation and its relevance as a sacred text that addresses human life’s challenges. He inaugurated the conference by lighting a lamp and unveiling a souvenir, asserting the Gita’s importance in environmental conservation.

Swami Gyananand Maharaj, a scholar of the Gita, highlighted that the scripture conveys a global message about protecting the environment and noted the significance of Kurukshetra as its birthplace. He stated that the Gita offers solutions to life’s problems by promoting balance.

Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (retd) expressed pride in preserving cultural values and commended efforts to celebrate Haryanvi traditions. He remarked on the sense of completeness that comes from visiting Kurukshetra.

The 18-day International Gita Mahotsav aims to deepen understanding of the Gita’s teachings, helping individuals navigate life’s dilemmas. This year’s festivities, running from November 28 to December 15, with main events from December 5 to December 11, feature Tanzania as the partner country and Odisha as the partner state.

During the celebration, Governor Dattatreya inaugurated the Haryana Pavilion at Purushottampura Bagh on the banks of Brahmasarovar, which showcases Haryanvi culture through vibrant folk art and heritage. He praised Kurukshetra University’s efforts to promote this culture on a global stage, while also highlighting the pavilion’s role in educating younger generations about Haryana’s rich traditions.
