No relief for Bikram Singh Majithia in Disproportionate Assets Case; Next hearing on July 29

Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia has not got relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the disproportionate assets case.

Chandigarh, July 8: Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia has not got relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the disproportionate assets case. Majithia’s lawyers sought three weeks’ time to amend the petition challenging the arrest, which the High Court has accepted. The next hearing will be on July 29.

Former minister Majithia is currently lodged in Nabha jail. Majithia’s police remand ended on July 6, after which the Mohali court sent him to judicial custody till July 19. The jail administration has installed CCTV cameras in his barrack citing security reasons and has made it clear that he will not be given any special facilities.

According to the public prosecutor, the next hearing of the case will be on July 29. While taking Majithia to jail, the police had made tight security arrangements and the movement of vehicles on the road leading to the jail was banned.

Majithia arrested from Amritsar

The Vigilance Bureau registered a case against Majithia in Mohali on June 25 at 4:30 am in the disproportionate assets case. After this, raids were conducted at 26 places in the state at places related to Majithia. Then after 11:30 am, Majithia was arrested from his house in Amritsar.

During this, 29 mobile phones, 5 laptops, 3 iPads, 2 desktops, 8 diaries and other documents were claimed to have been recovered. It was claimed that these were recovered from Majithia. However, Majithia’s lawyers claim that no phone was recovered during the investigation. All wrong information has been given in the media.
