Bhopal: A committee of senior BJP leaders, including joint national general secretary Shiv Prakash and Madhya Pradesh in-charge Mahendra Singh, convened on Thursday to meet with potential candidates for the position of district president.
This panel, which also includes state BJP President V. D. Sharma and state general secretary (organisation) Hiranand Sharma, engaged in one-on-one discussions with the nominees at the party headquarters in Bhopal.
The meetings are expected to continue on Friday, as not all candidates from various districts have attended yet. Once these discussions wrap up, the panel will likely reach a consensus on a final candidate for each district. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and other senior ministers are anticipated to join these meetings to help finalize the selections.
The approved list will then be submitted to the BJP’s central leadership for final endorsement. New district presidents are expected to be appointed within the first two weeks of the New Year.
The state BJP unit, under Khajuraho MP V. D. Sharma, has spent the past month compiling a list of three to four candidates for the ‘zila adhyaksh’ (district head) position, with plans to appoint a total of 60 district heads across Madhya Pradesh.
Following their victory in the November 2023 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is restructuring its organization from the grassroots up, having already completed elections for its multi-tier ‘Booth’ and ‘Mandal’ committees.
Each 12-member booth committee includes one president and 11 members. The election process primarily focused on selecting committee presidents. The other members consist of roles such as ‘WhatsApp Pramukh’, ‘Labharthi Pramukh’, a secretary, ‘Maan Ki Baat Pramukh’, and a booth-level agent.
The ‘Labharthi Pramukh’ is responsible for identifying beneficiaries of government schemes and reporting to the ‘WhatsApp Pramukh’, who collects real-time feedback from the grassroots and communicates it to the state party headquarters. The ‘WhatsApp Pramukh’ is also tasked with gathering daily updates from other Pramukhs and organizing various party initiatives.
