Patna: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is conducting re-examinations at 22 centers for candidates impacted by the disruptions at the Bapu Examination Centre on December 13, 2024. This comes amidst protests by some candidates and Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor, who are staging a sit-in at Gardanibagh.

The original examination on December 13 was canceled due to chaos triggered by the late distribution of question papers. Tensions rose when some candidates brought mobile phones into the center, documenting the situation and potentially broadcasting it.

Many protesters at Gardanibagh are voicing their frustrations regarding the handling of the exam process. Kishor, a prominent political strategist, is also leading a three-day protest at Gandhi Maidan near the Bapu statue, aiming to amplify the candidates’ grievances.

To maintain order, the Patna district administration has deployed a significant police presence around the exam venues and imposed Section 144, banning gatherings near these centers. Security officials have meticulously inspected candidates before allowing entry to ensure that no prohibited items, like mobile phones, were taken inside. Only admit cards, pens, and water bottles are permitted for candidates to reduce the risk of disruptions.

Additionally, the administration is monitoring the 22 exam centers with CCTV and has stationed 65 duty magistrates on-site and 14 in the control room to oversee the exam scheduled from 12 noon to 2 p.m.

Originally, 12,000 candidates had registered for the Bapu center examination, but only 7,000 have downloaded their admit cards for the re-exams. The administration faces the challenge of ensuring a smooth re-examination while addressing ongoing protests, highlighting the sensitive nature of the situation and potential implications for the BPSC’s reputation.
