During Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad on Friday morning at 10 o’clock, an elephant went out of control and ran for 100 meters. After this, there was a stampede in the Rath Yatra. People were seen running here and there. The out of control elephant was walking in the front of a group of 17 elephants.

According to the information, the elephant went out of control due to the sound of DJ and whistle. The forest department staff controlled the elephant with the help of two female elephants. After this, he and the two female elephants were removed from the procession. Reportedly, 14 elephants participated in the remaining procession.

The Rath Yatra was going on on Friday morning. As soon as the chariot reached near Khadia area, the male elephant walking in the lead suddenly got agitated. He was frightened by the loud DJ and whistles. He ran fast for 100 meters towards the nearby Pol Gali, broke the barricades on the way and knocked down several people. However, no one was seriously injured.

Controlled with the help of female elephants

Forest department official R.K. Sahu said that the help of two female elephants was taken to control the elephant. The presence of the female elephants calmed the male elephant and he was tied at a safe place near Khadia. At present, he is calm and under observation. The official said that “only an elephant can control an elephant, that is why female elephants were called.”

The elephants involved in the Rath Yatra undergo medical checkup

The decorated elephants in the Rath Yatra have always been a special attraction. This year, the animal husbandry department of Ahmedabad district took full responsibility for the physical and mental health of all the elephants involved in the Rath Yatra.

Continuous monitoring of the health of elephants since June 23

Ahmedabad district’s Deputy Animal Husbandry Director Suketu Upadhyay said that the physical and mental health of the elephants was being continuously monitored since June 23. Health checkup of all the elephants was done and they were also issued health certificates. The veterinary team also ensures that the elephants are not disturbed by flies or other insects. If there is any disease, it is treated on time so that the health of the elephants remains intact.

Control is done with a dart gun

Upadhyay also said that the health of the elephants is monitored for three consecutive days during the Rath Yatra. Teams of the Forest Department and Veterinary Department stay with the elephants so that they do not face any trouble or stress. If an elephant loses its mental balance or mood swings, the Forest Department team controls it by giving injections from a dart gun.
