Bengaluru: Greg Gonzalez, lead vocalist of the band Cigarettes After Sex, has revealed his appreciation for Indian music, sharing that he has listened to the soundtrack of the iconic Hindi film Sholay. He also expressed his admiration for Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi’s songs.

The band recently performed in India as part of their world tour. During an interview with Zoom, Gonzalez was asked whether he had seen any Indian films. He admitted that while he had not watched any, he was familiar with some Bollywood soundtracks, including Sholay’s.

Released in 1975 and directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay remains a cult classic, featuring legendary actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, and Sanjeev Kumar. Its songs, including Yeh Dosti and Holi Ke Din, continue to be popular today.

Although Gonzalez has not seen the film, he drew a comparison to his love for certain Italian soundtracks, despite not having watched the corresponding films. He also expressed admiration for legendary composer RD Burman’s music.

The singer further shared his long-standing fascination with Indian music, revealing that he enjoys both classic Hindi songs and the energetic tunes of Daler Mehndi. He mentioned that Mehndi’s Bolo Ta Ra Ra had even made it to his end-of-year playlist in the past, describing it as “an awesome song.”
