Kolkata: West Bengal Police have discovered Dubai connections of Sajidul Islam, a key member of the Bangladesh-based terror group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), who was arrested on December 30 in Naoda, Murshidabad district. His arrest followed a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police and Assam Police, who have since put him on transit remand.

Islam was living in Naoda as a carpenter but was often absent, claiming he had work-related commitments. Reports indicate that he frequently traveled to various states bordering Bangladesh and made two trips to Dubai in October. Authorities are investigating the purpose of these visits in relation to ABT activities.

Islam is the cousin of Shad Radi, another wanted ABT operative recently apprehended in Kerala. Radi held two Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) registered in his name in two different assembly constituencies in Murshidabad.

Intelligence sources have reported that ABT members are attempting to establish a presence in Murshidabad and Nadia districts, which have porous borders with Bangladesh. They are reportedly trying to recruit local youths as sleeper agents. In response, security measures have been intensified at border villages, and police have warned landlords not to rent to outsiders without proper vetting and to report unfamiliar individuals to local authorities.
