Tokyo (Japan): Japan Airlines (JAL) announced on Thursday that it had experienced a cyberattack, resulting in delays of up to an hour for at least 14 domestic flights and some disruptions to international flights, according to Kyodo News.
The airline reported that the issues started around 7:25 am, leading to a suspension of ticket sales for all domestic and international flights for the rest of the day. Passengers with existing bookings were informed that their tickets remained valid.
JAL is currently working to address the cyberattack and investigate its origins, noting that the incident could have broader implications for its flight operations. The airline managed to temporarily shut down the compromised router. The Metropolitan Police Department has been notified and is investigating the situation, as reported by investigative sources.
Earlier, JAL posted on X, stating, “We identified and addressed the cause of the issue. We are checking the system recovery status. Sales for both domestic and international flights departing today have been suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.” In another update, they added, “We regret to inform you that our network systems are down. The cause is under investigation. This may potentially affect the operations of both domestic and international flights. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”
