A new cyclonic storm named Fengal is set to impact the country, bringing heavy rainfall to multiple states. Winds may reach speeds of up to 55 kilometers per hour, which could lead to significant disruptions in the affected regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red alerts for heavy rain.
Currently, a cyclonic circulation has formed over the Indian Ocean and the South Andaman Sea, likely developing into a low-pressure area in the southeastern Bay of Bengal by November 23. This system is expected to move west-northwest and strengthen into a depression in central parts of the South Bay of Bengal in the coming days, affecting Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Strong winds and rainfall are anticipated during this time.
On November 25, moderate to heavy rain, along with thunder and lightning, is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are forecasted to have light to moderate rain throughout the week. For November 22, cloudy conditions are expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh from November 25 to 27. The Nicobar Islands will likely experience rain from November 22 to 24, while Kerala is expected to see rain from November 26 to 27.
The IMD has issued alerts for fishermen due to the expected strong winds in several coastal areas. Wind speeds ranging from 35 kmph to 55 kmph are predicted for the South Kerala coast and the Lakshadweep region. Strong winds will also affect the South Andaman Sea from November 22-24, the Comorin area and the Bay of Mannar on November 25, the Southeast Bay of Bengal from November 22-25, and the Southwest Bay of Bengal from November 24-25. Fishermen have been advised to steer clear of these areas during these adverse conditions.
