Patna: Prashant Kishor, the mastermind behind the Jan Suraj Abhiyan, is currently in stable health after more than 48 hours of a hunger strike in support of students protesting alleged irregularities in the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Preliminary Examination.
Kishor’s extended fast has raised health concerns, but a medical team led by physician Avinash Kumar from Patna has confirmed that he is stable, experiencing only mild symptoms of bronchitis and dehydration.
Following a thorough examination, Kumar informed the media that Kishor is dehydrated and has been advised to consume two to three liters of water each day. The medical team also emphasized the need for extra precautions to avoid health issues due to the prevailing cold weather conditions.
“Kishor is dealing with mild dehydration and a slight sore throat, for which we’ve suggested he gargle regularly. Overall, his health is stable at this moment,” stated Avinash Kumar.
Kishor’s hunger strike aims to spotlight and seek solutions for the alleged discrepancies in the 70th BPSC Preliminary Examination, an issue that has fueled widespread protests throughout Bihar.
The protests by BPSC candidates, fueled by allegations of paper leaks and irregularities, have now entered their 18th day with no resolution in sight. The situation gained traction, especially after Kishor, head of the Jan Suraj Party, joined the protests, significantly increasing its visibility.
Continuing his hunger strike in Gandhi Maidan, Patna, Kishor is enduring the severe cold and challenging conditions. The students are calling for the cancellation of the 70th BPSC Preliminary Examination, insisting that irregularities and leaks were not restricted to just one examination center but occurred in multiple locations.
In the meantime, BPSC held a re-examination at 22 locations on Saturday, which concluded without incident.
