Delhi pollution: Air quality again deteriorates to ‘severe’ category

New Delhi: After a brief respite of two days, Delhi’s air quality has once again plunged into the ‘severe’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 400 on Saturday. As reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average AQI in the capital stood at 422 points as of 7:00 a.m. Various cities.

New Delhi: After a brief respite of two days, Delhi’s air quality has once again plunged into the ‘severe’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 400 on Saturday.

As reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average AQI in the capital stood at 422 points as of 7:00 a.m. Various cities in the Delhi-NCR region also recorded high AQI levels, with Faridabad at 290, Gurugram at 324, Ghaziabad at 357, Greater Noida at 295, and Noida at 345.

In nine areas of Delhi, the AQI ranged from 300 to 400, including 394 in Aya Nagar, 384 in Mathura Road, and 397 at IGI Airport. Additionally, 27 areas reported AQI levels above 400, with readings such as 452 in Alipore, 458 in Anand Vihar, and 467 in Wazirpur.

According to the CPCB, the AQI classifications are as follows: 0-50 is good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and 401-500 is severe.

On Friday, the Supreme Court announced that the fourth stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-4) will remain in effect for the next 72 hours. The Court will review next week whether to ease certain restrictions, particularly those affecting schools, currently in place in the Delhi-NCR area to address the pollution crisis.
