New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police 2024, taking place in Odisha, will prioritize enhancing internal security and public safety.
Running from November 29 to December 1, the three-day conference will address key national security issues, including Counter Terrorism, Left Wing Extremism, Coastal Security, New Criminal Laws, and Narcotics, among others. The event will also feature the presentation of the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “I will be in Bhubaneswar for the DGP/IGP conference over the next two days. Senior police officials from across India will participate, engaging in extensive discussions to strengthen India’s internal security framework. Various policing aspects and public safety improvements will be on the agenda.”
The conference aims to create an interactive platform for senior police professionals and security administrators to discuss and debate a range of national security topics, as well as operational, infrastructural, and welfare issues. Discussions will focus on sharing best practices for addressing crime control and law enforcement challenges, alongside internal security threats.
“This afternoon, I will also address a BJP-organized program in Bhubaneswar. Since taking office in June, the BJP Government in Odisha has been committed to enhancing the state’s growth and improving the lives of the poor and marginalized,” PM Modi added.
The Prime Minister has consistently shown a keen interest in the DGP Conference, actively listening to contributions and promoting an open discussion environment for new ideas. This year’s conference includes unique features such as Yoga sessions, business meetings, breakout sessions, and thematic dining tables, allowing senior police officials to share their insights and suggestions with the Prime Minister on crucial policing and internal security issues.
Since 2014, PM Modi has encouraged the annual DGs/IGs Conference to be held across the country, with past conferences taking place in various locations including Guwahati, Rann of Kachchh, Hyderabad, Tekanpur, Kevadiya, Pune, Lucknow, New Delhi, and Jaipur. Continuing this tradition, Bhubaneswar is the chosen venue this year.
Attendees will include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Principal Secretary to PM Modi, the National Security Adviser, Ministers of State for Home Affairs, DGPs of States/UTs, and Chiefs of Central Police Organizations.
Extensive security measures have been implemented for PM Modi’s visit. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh indicated that heightened vigilance is in place to mitigate any potential threats from anti-national elements during the conference, with over 70 police platoons deployed for the event. The city is under a comprehensive security framework involving Odisha Police and Central Armed Police Forces.
