Mumbai: Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, known for his electrifying performances in the Dil-Luminati tour, unveiled the first look of his upcoming film ‘Punjab ’95’ on Saturday.
He shared several images on Instagram, showcasing his character from the film, captioned, “I Challenge the Darkness. Punjab 95.”
In the initial image, Diljit is depicted sitting on the floor in a rugged appearance, wearing a simple kurta and turban. His bloodied and bruised face conveys a profound sense of pain and resilience.
The film centers on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. One of the photos offers a glimpse into Khalra’s personal life, featuring Diljit alongside two children, hinting at the activist’s heartfelt journey.
Jaswant Singh Khalra was a bank director in Amritsar during the period of militancy in Punjab. In the aftermath of Operation Blue Star, the assassination of Indira Gandhi, and the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots, police were granted broad powers to detain suspected terrorists. Allegations surfaced regarding the police killing unarmed individuals in staged encounters and incinerating bodies to conceal these crimes. Khalra was investigating multiple significant cases and tirelessly gathered evidence and testimonies.
The Central Board of Film Certification in India suggested 120 cuts to the film due to its sensitive content, raising concerns about its release. However, with Diljit’s rising fame and international recognition, it seems the film may finally be released.
In related news, Diljit recently met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital.
