Kapurthala: A drug smuggler has been arrested in Kapurthala today, who had escaped by dodging the Jalandhar police. SI Kulwinder Singh and senior constable Davinderpal of Bilga police station were going to leave the accused Manpreet Singh alias Mani in the modern jail.
The accused was arrested on May 21 under the NDPS Act. On May 22, he suffered a paralysis attack, after which he was treated in the hospital. On the orders of the court, he was being taken in a private vehicle to be sent to judicial custody.
On Monday, the car was stopped near Jhall Thikriwal village to get the medical report photostated. Constable Davinderpal went to get the photostated and SI Kulwinder Singh was looking out of the window. During this time, the accused pushed the SI and fled with the car.
An FIR was filed against the accused on the complaint of SI Kulwinder Singh at Kotwali police station. SHO Kirpal Singh of Kotwali police station said that the police team has arrested the accused from his house.
