Drugs worth Rs 8.57 crore seized in Mizoram, three held

Aizawl: In a significant operation, the Assam Rifles and various law enforcement agencies have confiscated drugs valued at Rs 8.57 crore and arrested three smugglers in Mizoram, according to officials on Friday. Sources from the Assam Rifles reported that troops, in collaboration with the Excise and Narcotics Department, seized 244.500 grams of heroin and 2.288.

Aizawl: In a significant operation, the Assam Rifles and various law enforcement agencies have confiscated drugs valued at Rs 8.57 crore and arrested three smugglers in Mizoram, according to officials on Friday.

Sources from the Assam Rifles reported that troops, in collaboration with the Excise and Narcotics Department, seized 244.500 grams of heroin and 2.288 kilograms of ‘WY’ tablets in the Mualkawi area of Champhai district on Thursday. The apprehended smugglers have been identified as Lalhruaitluanga (56), Lalromawia (44), and Lalruatmawia (42).

In a separate operation, the Assam Rifles, together with the Mizoram Police Department, confiscated Rs 1.24 crore in Indian currency and arrested a 26-year-old Myanmar national, Lianbiaksang, in Ngur, also within Champhai district, which borders Myanmar. The cash was discovered in the bags of the Myanmar citizen based on specific intelligence received.

The confiscated drugs and currency have been forwarded to the Champhai district police for further legal action.

Since November 20, a total of Rs 178.57 crore worth of drugs smuggled from Myanmar has been seized by the Assam Rifles, state police, and other agencies in separate operations across Tripura and Mizoram. This includes a notable drug bust on December 2, where the Assam Rifles and state police recovered a substantial amount of drugs valued at Rs 68.03 crore in Mizoram’s Champhai district.

Additionally, on November 24, the Assam Rifles, in cooperation with Customs, seized one kilogram of Crystal Methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 16 crore near Agartala, Tripura’s capital. Earlier, on November 20, they recovered 28.520 kg of Methamphetamine tablets, 52 grams of heroin worth Rs 85.95 crore, and a foreign pistol in separate operations in Mizoram’s Champhai district.
