Explosion from firecrackers during Jagannath Chandan Yatra in Puri: 15 people injured, 4 in critical condition

15 people were injured when a heap of firecrackers exploded during Lord Jagannath's Chandan Yatra festival in Puri, Odisha on Wednesday (May 29) night.

Odisha: 15 people were injured when a heap of firecrackers exploded during Lord Jagannath’s Chandan Yatra festival in Puri, Odisha on Wednesday (May 29) night.

Police said that at the time of the accident, hundreds of people had gathered on the banks of Narendra Pushkarini Sarovar to watch the ritual. Meanwhile, some devotees were bursting firecrackers, when a spark fell on a heap of firecrackers and it exploded.

The injured have been admitted to the district hospital and four of them are in critical condition.

CM Patnaik said – the cost of treatment will be borne from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident. He said that the cost of treatment will be borne from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. CM Patnaik tweeted that it was sad to hear about the accident near Puri Narendra Pool. The Chief Administrative Secretary and the District Administration have been directed to get the injured treated properly and monitor the system.
