Gurugram: Authorities have arrested eleven individuals, including four women, for deceiving people by selling fraudulent “herbal medicines” purportedly for sexual health issues in Gurugram.
Police seized two laptops and four mobile phones connected to the operation on January 6 during a raid on a call centre located in Dundahera village.
Priyanshu Diwan, Assistant Commissioner of Police for Cyber Crime in Gurugram, reported that the arrested individuals, identified as Amandeep, Ranjit Kumar, Mohamad Kasim, Pratush Kumar Mishra, Sushil Kumar, Brijesh Sharma, Anoop Kumar, Rashika Rana, Isha, Sonali Kannojia, and Megha, operated the call centre.
The authorities have filed a criminal case against them under Sections 318, 319, and 612 of the BNS and Section 66D of the IT Act at the Cyber Crime (West) police station in Gurugram, and investigations are ongoing.
During questioning, it was revealed that Amandeep and Ranjit were the call centre operators who hired the others. They created a Facebook page called “The-Vedic Ayurvedic,” impersonating Dr. Rajiv Dixit, and placed advertisements promoting herbal medicines for enhancing sexual health. When potential customers contacted them, they took orders, directed payments to various bank accounts, and sent out fake medicines. They also used QR codes/UPI IDs to facilitate transactions.
The fraudsters admitted to engaging in these scams for approximately nine to ten months, with salaries ranging from Rs 18,000 to 20,000 per month, plus incentives for higher sales. Ongoing investigations aim to identify and apprehend others involved in this cyber fraud operation.
