Mumbai: Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan is all set to make a grand comeback to Bollywood with the romantic comedy Abir Gulaal. The film, co-starring Vaani Kapoor, marks his return to Indian cinema after almost nine years. Directed by Aarti S Bagdi, Abir Gulaal has wrapped up its shoot in London and is eyeing a theatrical release in 2025.
The Film and Its Premise
According to reports, Abir Gulaal is a heartwarming romantic comedy that explores the journey of two emotionally scarred individuals who help each other heal. Fawad Khan plays Abir, a London-based Indian chef, while Vaani Kapoor portrays Gulaal, a traditional woman from Jaipur.
The movie borrows its name from the lead characters and was filmed in a 37-day schedule in London. Initially planned to include scenes shot in Mumbai, the entire production shifted to the British capital as the story unfolds against its picturesque backdrop.

Stellar Cast and Crew
The film features a strong supporting cast, including Lisa Haydon, Farida Jalal, Parmeet Sethi, and Soni Razdan. Renowned designer Sheetal Sharma was among the Indian technicians who lent their expertise to the project. Producer Vivek B Agrawal, known for Udta Punjab and Vikram Vedha, is optimistic about the film’s release between early and mid-2025.
A Significant Comeback
This marks Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood after his last film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). Cross-border collaborations had faced a roadblock following the Uri attack in 2016, but the Bombay High Court’s 2023 decision rejecting a ban on such projects has paved the way for cultural exchanges.
With Abir Gulaal promising a mix of emotional depth and lighthearted moments, fans of Fawad Khan are eagerly anticipating his return to the silver screen. Stay tuned for more updates as the film gears up for its release!
