Rajasthan: Five people lost their lives in a tragic head-on collision between a canter and an SUV on the Churu-Hanumangarh highway in Rajasthan’s Churu district early Wednesday morning. Two others sustained serious injuries in the accident.
According to the local police station house officer, Arvind Kumar, the incident involved a Tata Safari traveling from Sardarshahar to Hanumangarh, which collided with a canter coming from the opposite direction. The collision severely damaged the Safari and trapped its occupants inside.
Rescue efforts began promptly, with the Sardarshahar police and local residents working together to free the victims. A crane was employed to help separate the vehicles. The injured were taken to the hospital in a police vehicle, while rescuers took about two hours to extricate two individuals trapped in the wreckage.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Lal arrived at the scene to supervise the rescue operations. All victims were transported to Sardarshahar Hospital, where doctors declared five occupants of the car deceased. The victims were identified as Kamlesh (26), Rakesh (25), and Pawan (33) from Bikaner, along with Dhanraj, a resident of Sikar.
Three others, including the canter driver, Kishore Singh Rajput from Ratangarh, and two individuals, Nandlal (23) and Ramlal from Bikaner, were referred to a more advanced medical facility in Bikaner due to their critical injuries. Unfortunately, Nandlal died on the way to the hospital, and his body was taken to the PBM Hospital mortuary in Bikaner.
The bodies of the remaining victims are currently in the mortuary at Sardarshahar Government Hospital as authorities investigate the cause of the accident. The crash was devastating, completely wrecking the front sections of both vehicles. The police cleared the road and managed to restore traffic flow after the incident caused a one-hour traffic jam on the Mewa Highway.
