Traffic accidents are a frequent cause of fatalities in Nepal. On December 12, a similar SUV accident in Jajarkot district resulted in the deaths of five people, including an infant, after the vehicle carrying seven people fell off the highway and plunged 700 meters down a cliff. Preliminary investigations suggested brake failure caused the vehicle to lose control, and two others were hospitalized with injuries.

This marks the fourth fatal SUV accident in Nepal between November and December, resulting in 26 deaths and 15 injuries. On November 15, an SUV carrying 13 pilgrims fell off a highway in Darchula district, killing eight people and injuring five others. Several of the injured remained in critical condition.
