Death sentence was converted to life imprisonment in 2010

The trial court convicted Hawara on March 27, 2007 and sentenced him to death. The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued an order on October 12, 2010, converting his sentence to life imprisonment.

He has been acquitted in a case of treason

On January 22, 2004, he escaped from Chandigarh Burdel Jail by digging a tunnel with his companions. He was caught a year after escaping. He has been in jail since 2005. Today he is 54 years old.

19 years have passed since the petitioner’s re-arrest after escaping from jail. The petition states that the petitioner has sought a report from the jail authorities on his conduct in Delhi jail. Which has not been given to him yet. At the same time, he has been acquitted in a case of sedition.

Hawara was arrested on 21 September 1995. After that he was tried and convicted for the murder of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. He is in jail from the date of his arrest till date. He has been in prison for more than 28 years.
