Shimla: There was fresh snowfall in the higher regions of Himachal Pradesh’s tribal district Lahaul Spiti last night. Atal Tunnel Rohtang also witnessed light snowfall at night. In view of this, the Lahaul Spiti district administration has issued an advisory to tourists not to go to high altitude areas. After fresh snowfall in the higher regions of Lahaul Spiti, the cold has returned again.
According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, light snowfall may occur in the higher regions of Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu and Lahaul Spiti today. The weather is forecast to remain clear in other areas.
Western disturbance will remain active for 5 days
Western disturbance will be more active from tomorrow. Heavy rain and snowfall is expected in the mountains for the next five days. Heavy rain and snowfall may occur at some places especially between 13 and 16 March. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy snowfall on Holi.
Since March, there has been 44 percent more rainfall than normal
The state received 90 percent less rain and snowfall than normal in January and February. But in the first 10 days of March, it rained 44 percent more than normal. From 1st to 10th March, the state receives an average of 34.9 mm rainfall, but this time it rained 50.4 mm.
Kullu district has received 168 percent more rain than normal and Mandi has received 101 percent more rain. Una is the only district in the state where the rain in March was 27 percent less than normal.
