Mumbai: A special court in Mumbai has issued a new bailable warrant for former BJP MP Pragya Thakur, who is the main accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, after she failed to appear in court. This marks the second warrant issued against her in two weeks, following a previous warrant issued on November 5, which required her presence on November 13.

Thakur’s lawyer, J. P. Mishra, informed the court that she was unable to attend due to health issues and provided medical records to support her claim. Consequently, the court issued a fresh bailable warrant for Rs 10,000 and instructed her to appear in court on December 2.

On November 5, Thakur shared a post on social media declaring her intention to attend court if she were alive, and has consistently alleged that the Congress party is falsely implicating her in this case.

In October of the previous year, Thakur reportedly broke down while giving her testimony to the Special NIA Court, where she faced numerous questions related to the accounts of medical professionals who treated the victims and performed post-mortems following the blast. She denied involvement in the allegations.

The Malegaon incident, which occurred on September 29, 2008, claimed six lives and injured over 100 people when a bomb attached to a motorcycle detonated near a mosque in Malegaon, Maharashtra, located about 200 kilometers from Mumbai. Thakur, along with Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit and five others, is on trial for their alleged roles in the blast conspiracy.
