New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted the Stage I restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR following a noticeable improvement in air quality. This decision was made effective immediately.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 153 on Saturday, placing it in the ‘Moderate’ category, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The CAQM attributed this improvement to strong surface winds and favorable meteorological conditions across the region.
“The AQI in Delhi has seen a significant enhancement due to improved weather conditions and strong winds. The forecast by IMD/IITM also suggests that air quality will likely remain in the ‘Moderate’ category in the coming days,” the CAQM stated.
In light of this positive trend, the CAQM Sub-Committee unanimously decided to revoke Stage I restrictions of GRAP across the NCR. However, agencies have been urged to continue implementing measures outlined in the commission’s comprehensive policy to combat air pollution, particularly focusing on dust mitigation from construction activities and roads, which could impact air quality in the coming months.
The committee emphasized that it will closely monitor the air quality and reassess the situation as needed, based on updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).
