Helsinki: The leaders of Nordic and Baltic nations, along with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, have reiterated their commitment to support Ukraine extensively. This pledge was made during a two-day meeting held at Harpsund, the Swedish Prime Minister’s retreat, attended by the prime ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Poland, and Sweden, along with Latvia’s Foreign Minister. French President Emmanuel Macron also participated remotely via phone.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced at a press conference that the group has agreed to boost their support for Ukraine, focusing on strengthening its defense capabilities and increasing ammunition supplies. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the importance of direct investments in Ukraine’s defense industry and insisted that aid should be unimpeded.
Addressing concerns about a potential decrease in US support under a forthcoming Trump administration, Tusk noted that Europe should be ready to partially fill any gaps, viewing this as a chance to bolster European security.
In their joint statement, the leaders expressed support for Ukraine’s Victory Plan and committed to aiding its full integration into European and Euro-Atlantic frameworks.
