Official sources told the news agency that a joint operation was launched by  Jammu and Kashmir Police with Army in the area earlier on a tip of information.

The sources also said that soon after the security forces moved to the suspected spot the terrorist opoened firing which turns into the encounter.

Security forces retaliated and opened fire after the terrorists fired a few shots.

The area has been cordoned off and an operation started.

There have been a series of encounters between terrorists and security forces across Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past in which many terrorists and their commanders have been eliminated.

Security forces have also taken casualties.
