Mumbai: Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar is set to introduce a promising new talent through Dharma Productions’ upcoming project, marking the launch of the 24th debutant filmmaker under his banner. Reflecting on his journey, which began with the production of Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2003, Karan reiterated his commitment to nurturing fresh voices in Indian cinema. Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, he stated that his vision for Dharma extended beyond producing commercially successful films. His aim was to empower storytellers and filmmakers who could bring diverse narratives to the forefront. Karan noted, “We got it right… we got it wrong – but the intent was always to put out stories and films we believed in. The motive was either to entertain, seek acclaim, or simply have fun at the movies!”
Expressing his pride in introducing yet another debutant filmmaker, Karan highlighted his ongoing mission to support fresh talent. He took a subtle dig at critics accusing Dharma of favouring star kids, clarifying that 90% of the filmmakers he has launched were ‘outsiders.’ He added, “I am so proud to say that our next offering is the 24th debutant filmmaker we have introduced to Hindi cinema! I rarely write notes before a film’s release, but this film has excited, energised, and inspired me throughout the process.” Karan also praised the dedication of the director, who spent four years working relentlessly on the project despite pandemic-related delays and other challenges. He commended the entire cast and crew for their unwavering support during the film’s journey.

I say this as a filmmaker and an audience… I pray for the team that the audience is coloured in the colour of their passion,” he concluded. With this latest venture, Karan Johar continues to champion emerging talent, ensuring that innovative and inspiring stories find their place in Indian cinema for years to come.
