Aden: Yemeni government forces reported that they successfully thwarted three attempts by the Houthi group to infiltrate in the southwestern province of Taiz, resulting in the deaths of two militants and injuries to several others. The Taiz Military Axis condemned the Houthis’ ongoing escalation of hostilities, which includes attacks on civilians and government military installations in Taiz, as highlighted by Xinhua news agency.
In their statement, the government forces noted that they repelled the three separate Houthi infiltration attempts within a short period. Additionally, they targeted Houthi artillery positions responsible for shelling residential areas in Taiz city and its western outskirts.
This escalation follows recent Houthi drone strikes on government forces in the Dhubab region, as well as bombardments of areas under government control. Yemen has experienced a tenuous calm since October 2, 2022, after the Houthi group and the government failed to extend a UN-brokered truce. Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, both sides have shown little interest in resuming negotiations to resolve the conflict, which the UN estimates has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and brought millions to the brink of famine.
