The government of Pakistan told the Supreme Court that the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan is being given the best facilities. They are provided with color TV, separate kitchen, exercise equipment. Along with this, they have been given a walking area and other facilities near the barracks.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail since September last year. He was arrested on August 5, 2023 after being convicted in the Toshakhana corruption case. He is currently lodged in Adiala Jail.
In one case, the PTI founder, who was present in the Supreme Court on May 30, complained to the Chief Justice that he was living in solitary confinement. The government has banned visits by lawyers and family members.
In its reply submitted to the Supreme Court, the government rejected her claim and submitted a list of facilities granted to him. It also featured pictures of Imran’s cell and a meeting with his legal team in jail, among other items. The government has also provided a list of persons who met Imran.
The government has said that if necessary, a commission can be formed to verify Imran’s allegations. Earlier in March, the government had formalized the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to facilitate a meeting with the accused former prime minister.
