Washington, May 10: US President Donald J. Trump announced early Saturday that India and Pakistan have agreed to a “FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE” following a night of high-level talks reportedly mediated by the United States.
Talking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Trump wrote:
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
While official confirmation from the governments of India and Pakistan is still awaited, Trump’s statement has generated significant attention and cautious optimism across diplomatic circles.
The reported breakthrough follows days of rising tensions and military alerts, particularly in border regions, prompting concerns from the international community.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Vice President JD Vance and I myself have been talking to India-Pakistan officials as well as PM Narendra Modi, PM Shahbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Defense Minister Asim Munir and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the last 48 hours. I am happy to inform that the governments of Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate ceasefire. Both countries have agreed to hold talks to resolve disputes on an impartial platform. We praise Modi and Shahbaz Sharif for wisely choosing the path of peace.
Condemned terrorism, but also asked India to exercise restraint
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that Marco Rubio expressed condolences to Jaishankar on the phone call for those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He said that America stands with India against terrorism. However, he also advised India to be cautious in blaming Pakistan for this attack and demanding retaliation.
Meanwhile, Tammy Bruce said that during a phone conversation with Prime Minister Sharif, Rubio asked Pakistan to condemn the attack in Kashmir on April 22 and cooperate in the investigation. The US Secretary of State had requested Pakistani officials to fully cooperate in the investigation of this attack.
Direct talks took place between India and Pakistan
According to ANI report, sources said that direct talks were held between the two countries to stop firing and military action between India and Pakistan.
This afternoon, the Pakistani DGMO initiated the talks, following which discussions took place and consensus was reached. There has been no decision to hold talks at any other place on any other issue.
