Chicago [US]: The Consulate General of India in Chicago has expressed sorrow over the death of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a postgraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the US.

The Consulate stated on Wednesday (local time) that they are in contact with Gampa’s family and that the university is offering full support to them. However, the cause of his death has not been disclosed by the Indian Consulate.

In a post on X, the Consulate General of India in Chicago shared, “We are saddened by the untimely death of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a postgraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Consulate is in contact with Praveen’s family and the University, providing them with all possible support. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with his family and friends.”

This incident follows another tragedy in November 2024, when the Consulate expressed shock over the murder of Indian student Nukarapu Sai Teja from Telangana, who was shot outside a store in Chicago.

On social media, the Consulate had called for immediate action against those responsible for the crime and assured the victim’s family and friends of all necessary support. According to Teja’s uncle, Sai Teja, who had come to the US for higher studies, was shot by two African American suspects. He was pursuing an MBA at Concordia University in Chicago after completing his BBA and working a part-time job. On the day of the incident, after being robbed of money at a store, Teja was shot outside by the suspects.
